calepino*
(noun)
ka-leh-PEE-nohDEFINITION
– a persistent thought, idea, or worry
– a niggling obsession

The Calepino is a serial publication; a cross between a zine, an artist book, and short fiction. Each volume is conceived (you guessed it!) from a particular, long-held “calepino.” Handmade in small editions, the Calepino is an imprint of the writer and artist Enza Apa.
- No 1: explores the history (and mystery) of the merman, following the trail of one in particular, the Banff Merman.
- No 2: delves into the mysteries of Gutter Lake, a location once experienced but never again found. A stand-alone museum exhibition experience, in book form.

* The word “calepino” is of southern Italian dialect, of origins Calabrese. Tracing its origins and spelling (calapino? calipino?) has become somewhat of a calepino in itself. We’d love to hear from you if you have any insight to share!
